Greater Accra Regional Minister Donates Assorted Items To The Ada Traditional Council

GREATER ACCRA REGIONAL MINISTER DONATES ASSORTED ITEMS TO THE ADA TRADITIONAL COUNCIL

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Ms. Linda Akweley Obenewaa Ocloo, paid a courtesy call on the chiefs and elders of the Ada Traditional council on the 8th of December 2025, ahead of the Christmas festivities. She was accompanied by Chief Director Of The Regional Coordinating Council, Ms. Lilian Baeka, the District Chief Executives of the traditional council, Hon. Modjifa Tanihu J.J.F Mills-Nkrumah, (Ada West District) and Hon. Kenneth Kofi Kabu Kanor, (Ada East District).

On behalf the President of the republic of Ghana, His Excellency John D. Mahama, Ms. Ocloo donated 20bags of rice,10 boxes of frytol, 20 packs of water, crates of beer, 2 crates of Guinness, 1box of castle drink 3 bottles of snaps and an undisclosed cash donation to the council. She expressed the President’s appreciation for the people’s unwavering support and loyalty.

In addition to their mission, she stated that they would like to know the challenges facing the Ada traditional council. She quickly, recounted that during the Ada Asafotufiam Festival, the paramount chief tabled before them some challenges to be communicated to the president. She assured them that the president has taken necessary actions in addressing those challenges adding that he has promised to construct a housing facility for the paramount chief in Ada.

She indicated that the President is equally concerned with security issues in the districts and had made provisions for streetlights for the principal streets to reduce carnage on our roads. “And after this meeting, we are going to share streetlights to the districts” she added   

Hon. Ocloo, further, apologized on behalf of the two Members of Parliament, for their inability to accompany her to the palace, as they have been equally engaged with some governmental duties.  

She emphasized the need for unity and peace in the community citing the impact of misunderstanding on development. “When there’s unity there will be development as well”

The minister also expressed concern about students’ safety and academic performance urging parents and security services to ensure children stay home and study especially within this festive season. This form of parental neglect affects the performance of the students and is a major recipe for teenage pregnancies.

 He attributed this indiscipline to the recent abysmal performances of some of the students in the WASSCE examinations. “Children must stay home to study in order to improve upon the educational standard. In this regard, His Excellency the president would like to know if there are suggestions from the Ada traditional council to help improve upon the educational performance of these young ones”. The government has also awarded some Get fund school projects and road projects in Ada East and Ada west. It is expected of the constructors commence work early next year.

Both DCEs of Ada West and East, seized the opportunity to expatiate on government developmental projects under construction in the districts bringing relief to residents, generally. 

–           Ada West DCE

The DCE noted that the traditional council has been engaged severally, with regards to their communal needs and steps have been taken to address them accordingly. He outlined these challenges and efforts made so far to bring relief to the entire community.

Potable water challenge – clean treated water has been a long-standing issue and thankfully, some communities such as “Hwakpo is now connected to treated potable water, pending Luhuor and adjourning communities”.

Health centers – according to the DCE, the president has indicated the yearly construction of a health center in a community, and as “I’m talking now the Hon. MP has started the Foundation for a health center at Wekumagbe; there will be one at Animkorpe with quarters for the nurses and other workers.  Renovation works has started on the Bonikorpe health center”. Though the facility is blessed with competent staff but it has infrastructural challenges. we’re currently renovating the maternity ward and other ancillary facilities.

Road – He explained that the assembly had serviced the machines for the community road re-constructions and very soon work will commence on the Sege-Battor roads. This road is crucial as it leads to the major health facility serving the entire community. He reminded the chiefs of their promise to partner the Assembly with fuel, to operate the machine for the road constructions.

The 24hours Market – this project was said to be dear to the president because of the socio-economic prospects. The market will contain a Kindergarten, police station, lorry station, fire service office, bank among others. It will also have one hundred and thirty-four (134) lockable stores and 50 sheds. He confirmed the receipt of funds for this project, pending a contractor.  The project will be completed under I8 months. The current market will also be modernized by a Turkish contractor.

Staff accommodation – The Assembly has plans to construct bungalows for teachers, nurses and workers in the district at a negligible amount.

Education– “The Ada Senior High Secondary School would be fenced as part of efforts to secure the school. We are also going to construct a 6 classrooms block at Aditcherekorpe and Kportitsekorpe”.

 

 DCE – Ada East.

Hon. Kabu Kanor informed the gathering that an amount of eighteen million cedis (₵18 million) has been received from government for various projects.

Potable water– The problem with perineal water shortage has been resolved. Some parts of Kasseh which were not having water has been connected to the Ghana water company, bringing lasting solution to the water challenges. Similarly, the water issue at coastal areas will also be solved very soon.

Energy – He appreciated the government for keeping the lights on consistently. He assured the council that the era of power outages is over.

Health – a construction of a CHPS Compound is underway at Ada- Azizanya and Sega.

Education: he mentioned Tojeh and Pute as communities to benefit from a kindergarten and a junior High School block in the nearest possible time.

24 HOUR MARKET

He also confirmed the released of funds for the 24 hours market construction. He was grateful the Ada traditional council gave them lands for the project and it will commence early next year.

LEGACY PROJECTS

He mentioned that all legacy projects would be completed. He noted a few such as the  incomplete school building at Alavanyo,  Foah market and Kasseh as projects to be completed without hesitation.  

School Logistics – furniture distribution to school has also commenced to improve on the quality of teaching and learning.

Health – There will be new health center in Kasseh,

Sanitation And Road Construction – Kasseh to Big Ada Road and Ada Foah Clinic junction – Pute, road has been awarded to be constructed very soon.

Security – the Ada East received three hundred (300) streetlights for this year’s Ada Asafotufiam festival. These lights were used to lighten up the communities to reduce crime during the festival.

Suggestions and requests from Ada Traditional council.

The elders appreciated the president’s gesture and requested more frequent visits from government officials.  

Following the objectives of the minister’s visit, Nene Obitsler requested  her to remind the President of the impending government resolution of the outstanding impasse between them and Songor salt company.

More importantly, the council wished to deliberate the death of Korleytey a resultant from the struggle between Electrochem and community members due to agitations over the Songor salt concessions. He pleaded that the government would take full cost of his burial and also take the responsibility of taking care of his children and support his family.

He sought government intervention through the minister, on the Sea defense project to protect lives and properties of the costal dwellers and other road construction needs.

The minister assured the council that the President would address these concerns and provide support for the community’s development.
