The 41st National Farmers’ Day Celebration – Ada West District

THE 41st NATIONAL FARMERS’ DAY CELEBRATION – ADA WEST DISTRICT

The Ada West District, joined other districts across the nation to celebrate the 41st National Farmers’ Day on Friday, 5th December 2025, at Toflokpo Presby Primary School. This celebration is in appreciation of the relentless efforts of our farmers in ensuring food security, nationwide.

Mr Vincent Emmanuel Nmonmlotry Sappor, was adjudged the District Best Farmer of the year. He was awarded with a double door fridge, four (4) knapsack sprayers, four (4) Agro-chemicals, five (5) cutlasses, two wellington boots and ten (10) liquid fertilizers. 

He is a dedicated mixed crop farmer, from the Sege community in the district. Mr. Sappor expressed his gratitude for this recognition and enjoined all farmers to rise to the occasion and embrace farming for mother Ghana.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to ten (10) outstanding farmers and institutions that excelled in their various fields of agriculture. These awards were in recognition of their commitment to agriculture and also as encouragement to the larger society to take up the initiative in farming.

The awardees were in the category of District Best; livestock farmer, female farmer, youth in agriculture, and fish farmer. Others were the District Best Agricultural extension officer, best Junior High and basic Schools in practical agriculture and best Faith-Based Organization in practical agriculture.

The District Best differently abled person as well as the District Best Female Farmer, both, from Tugakope were equally recognised and awarded. Each of them received a chest freezer, two (2) knapsack sprayers, four (4) agrochemicals, five (5) cutlasses, two (2) wellington boots and ten, (10) liquid fertilizers.

The event brought together major stakeholders in the agricultural sector and the general public.  Some of the profiled dignitaries gracing the occasion were Hon. Modjifa Tanihu J.J.F. Mills Nkrumah, the District Chief Executive, Ada West, Mr Gordon Walker Doe, District Coordinating Director, traditional authorities, security officers, Assembly Members, departmental heads, staff of the Department of Agriculture, and representatives from the sector players, such as Kuipers Breeders Ghana, fishermen, fish processors, and members of the general public.  

Speaking on the theme for the celebration “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future.” the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon Modjifa Tanihu J.J.F Mills Nkrumah, expressed his delight to be part of the collective effort to feed the nation and also encourage all citizens to consume what is produced in Ghana. He stated the appropriateness of the theme, emphasizing that no government or country can succeed without a strong commitment to national food security, agricultural self-sufficiency, and sustainable job creation. He expressed profound gratitude to His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama and his dynamic team for their continued drive toward the sustainable development of the nation.

Hon. Tanihu highlighted the government’s Feed Ghana Programme, which seeks to strengthen food production, create jobs, and reduce imports. The programme includes key areas such as crop and livestock development, farmer’s service centres, farm banks, irrigation support, and value addition. He encouraged all stakeholders to work together for the success of the initiative.

In the same vein, the District Director of Agriculture, Mr Daniel Tetteh Ajesiwor expressed appreciation to all guests and accentuated the importance of Farmers’ Day as a moment to recognize and reward the tireless efforts of farmers and fisher folks who played vital roles in ensuring food security, job creation, and economic development. He emphasized that the 2025 theme underscores the need to strengthen local food production and consumption to achieve self-sufficiency and reduce dependence on imports.

He bought to attention the major achievements under the “Feed Ghana Programme”, including the registration of Farmer-Based Organizations (FBOs), farm and home visitations, capacity building for staff and farmers, livestock vaccination and biosecurity measures, formation of youth and women groups, and market data collection to support agricultural planning and monitoring.

He thanked all the farmers in the district including those who did not receive awards. He noted that the selection of the ten awardees was rigorous, as all the competitors were equally had working farmers. He entreated them to continue the hard work and assuredly, it would pay off.  

Similarly, Kuipers Breeders Ghana, appreciated and celebrated all farmers at the ceremony. Contained in their speech was the recognition of the hard work of poultry, crop, fish, seasonal crop, and salt farmers across Ghana. The company reaffirmed its mission to support farmers by providing quality chicks, technical guidance, and practical training especially, this in this season that government policy concentration is on agriculture. He pointed out that “when farmers succeed, the entire agricultural chain grows”.

They praised the resilience and growth of the farmers, whilst acknowledging challenges like unfavourable weather conditions, rising input costs and market fluctuations.

Kuipers Breeders Ghana, stressed the importance of partnership among farmers, government, veterinarians, input suppliers, and the private sector in building a strong and modern agricultural sector. The company reiterated their commitment to walking with farmers in this agricultural journey.

The farmers day celebration in the Ada West District was partly sponsored by, Kuipers Breeders Ghana, Chemico Ghana LTD-Tema, Crocodile Machete-Tema, Rosyvon-Sege and Standard Water-Sege. Others were, Voltic Water-Dawa, Ada Rural Bank-Ada, Agave Rural Bank-Sege, Puma Filling Station and Pioneer Food Cannery-Tema.  

The occasion was characterised with cultural performances, excitement, and unity among participants as they celebrated the true backbone of Ghana’s economy — the hardworking farmer.
