AWDA HANDS OVER PROJECTS TO BENEFICIARY COMMUNITIES
The Ada West District Assembly (AWDA) on Tuesday 29th and Wednesday 30th September 2026 had handed over a number of projects namely toilet facilities, CHPS compounds and School classroom blocks to some beneficiary communities.

The beneficiary communities included Koluedor, Bonikope, Aditcherekope, Luhour and Abuanorkope-Lolonya, and were respectively handed over 10 seater KVIP toilet facility, 3 unit classroom block with stores for the Junior High School, 6-unit classroom block with 6 seater KVIP toilet facility, CHPS Compound with 2-unit Staff Quarters and CHPS Compound with mid-wife accommodation. Both the CHPS Compounds at Luhour and Abuanorkope-Lolonya came with supply of office furniture. The Ada Senior High Technical School also benefited from 20-seater toilet facility (ten each for boys and girls).

In his remarks throughout the beneficiary communities, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Modjifa Tanihu J.J.F. Mills-Nkrumah of the Ada West District Assembly (AWDA) indicated that the Assembly as development agent and being the DCE of the Assembly, he had observed that the beneficiary communities needed the projects brought to them at this particular moment and cited how learners in the R.C Basic School at Koluedor for instance had to attend nature call in the bush and charged the beneficiary communities to take good care of the projects.

At the Ada Senior High Technical School, the DCE made the point that it was his plan to improve the condition of the only Secondary School in the District to make it attractive and informed the students of a request the Assembly made to government for a multi dimensional Science Block for the School in addition to a 24-unit GETFUND classroom project already secured for the school, and stressed, that as a teacher, he intended to make the school attractive as a place he can return to teach after serving in the capacity as DCE and therefore charged the learners to develop a maintenance culture to ensure cleanliness of the toilet facilities handed over to them. The Head Master of the School, Mr. Thomas Vroom in his remarks said that he had been in the school for just about 2 years, 8 months but could attest to the kind of developments brought to the school by the DCE within the short period and indicated that when they conducted structure integrity assessment on the old toilets of the school and realized that it was a death trap, they wrote to the DCE through the Assembly for assistance and within a short period of their request, the edifice had been put up for the school. On his part, the District Education Director, Dr. Stephen Arthur said that, as a management member of the Assembly, he knew about the limited resources the Assembly operates with and yet the Assembly has been trying its best to improve upon educational facilities in the district to make learning environment conducive and attractive and charged the students to create the environment for healthy learning and as well urged them to take advantage of technology to learn but not to use the internet space for the wrong reasons.

At Aditcherekope, Dr. Arthur said that when he had been posted to the District about three years ago his mandate was to ensure that no children of school going age were left behind and therefore when he got to know that Aditcherekope had only Kindergarten (KG) and children had to travel long distance to access primary education in Afiadenyigba, a nearby community, he approached the DCE and the result was the handing over of the Aditherekope D.A Primary School to the community on this historic day and charged the community to take good care of the School. Community members were not only happy about the new school edifice built by the Assembly for the Adithecherekope community but also celebrated Miss Gladys Sedolo, the teacher in charge of the KG, for her hard work and appealed to the Education Director to make her the first Head teacher of the new Primary school and in response to their request, the District Education Director disclosed to the community members that Miss Gladys Sedolo had already been appointed the Head teacher of the School.

The DCE in handing over the CHPS compound at the Luhour to the community members said that when the Member of Parliament (MP), Hon. Daniel Bessey was campaigning as parliamentary candidate prior to the December 7, 2024 Parliamentary election, he was with him and the MP promised that if the NDC won the election he would put up a health post for Luhour. The DCE added, that, thankfully when the NDC won the said election, he also became DCE for the Ada West District and they therefore deemed it prudent to deliver on the promise made by the MP and to ensure that the community gets CHPS compound and the result was the handing over of the said facility. Both the DCE and the District Health Director, Dr. Maxwell Onasis Fiadjo underscored the importance of the CHPS compound in health delivery services especially the primary health care policy being rolled out by government and charged community members to take good care of the facility as the Health Director stressed that a CHPS compound is community based and hence, the need for the community to ensure its maintenance. Similar admonitions for maintenance of the projects handed over to the various communities were also given by Rev. Fr. Richard Achii, the Priest in-Charge of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Koluedor, the Presiding Member of the Ada West Assembly and Assembly member of Bonikope (Hon. Lawrence Katey Ngunekpeku) and Sege-Koni Assembly member, Hon. Ernest Kugblenu who also urged the DCE to follow up on the 24-unit classroom block for the Ada Senior High Technical School to become a reality. Other Assembly members who also commented on maintenance culture and pledged their support to ensure the maintenance of the projects handed over to their respective communities were Hon. John Ofoe Akpakpavi of Afiadenyigba Electoral Area, Hon. Jonathan T. Asamanyuah of Addokope Electoral Area and Hon. Rockson Ahukessey of Lolonya Electoral Area.

Also present in the various communities for the handing over ceremony were some traditional leaders notably, Nene Teye Klokpa of Koluedor, Nene Kwasi Dameh of Konikope, Nene Nuertey Abuanor, Asafoatse Okamatey Abuanor, some technocrats of the Ada West District Assembly and the Coordinating Director of the Ada West District, Namele Firimin Roger Nabiebakye, Esq.
