ADWA ELECTS A PRESIDING MEMBER

Honourable Ngunekpeku Lawrence Katey, Assembly Member for Bonikope, has been elected as the Presiding Member for the Ada West District Assembly. As the only candidate vying for the position, he obtained a resounding 100% approval from the Assembly Members after a one-time voting process.

 

The District Magistrate, Her Ladyship Victoria Ghansah swore him into office to immediately commence his duties as the Presiding Member of the Ada West District Assembly.

 

In his response, he thanked his colleagues for the overwhelming confidence reposed in him to serve as a Presiding Member. He pledged his unwavering loyalty to the assembly, the duty, his colleague Assembly members and all the residents, to serving them diligently, and develop the district and country at large. He is of the expectation that his tenure in office “will be an all-inclusive journey” that would propel the fortunes of the Assembly and communities of the district.

 

He stated that “transparency, equity and accountability will be areas that are not going to be sidelined on this journey because it has always been the demand of our people and it shall be served to them at all times”. He also added that it his vision to promote fairness and ensure resource leakages are curtailed for a better living standard for residents districtwide.

 

The Electoral Commissioner Mr. Stephen Oppong presided over the election at the District Assembly Hall. A “Yes” or “No” secret balloting gave Mr. Katey a twenty-two “Yes” votes out of twenty-two assembly members. The roll call indicated that all Members were present for the election. There were fifteen (15) Elected Assembly Members and seven (7) Government Appointees.  There were no rejected votes.

The occasion was witnessed by heads of the security services in the district, religious and traditional leaders and staff of the assembly.

 

The Coordinating Director presided over the activities until the elected PM assumed office.
