Report By A Courtesy Visit By Officials From The Ghana Tourism Authority To The Ada West District Assembly

REPORT BY A COURTESY VISIT BY OFFICIALS FROM THE GHANA TOURISM AUTHORITY TO THE ADA WEST DISTRICT ASSEMBLY

On 6th August 2025, a delegation from the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), led by the newly appointed Director, Mr Isaac Asiamah, and his Deputy, Ms Gifty Ofeibea Koranteng, paid a courtesy call on the District Chief Executive of Ada West, Hon Modjifa Tanihu JJF Mills-Nkrumah, at his office. The purpose of the visit was to congratulate the DCE on his appointment, and to formally introduce the new Director of the GTA, and to explore possible areas of collaboration in promoting tourism within Ada West District.

During the meeting, the DCE warmly welcomed the delegation and expressed his appreciation for the visit. He took the opportunity to give a brief historical background of Ada, emphasizing that the history of Ada people began from Ada West. He mentioned the names of the Ada clans and provided insights into how some groups migrated from other areas to settle in Ada, highlighting the rich cultural and historical heritage of the district. This formed the basis for further discussions on tourism development in the area.

One of the major points discussed was the absence of a tourism officer within the district. In response to this, the GTA officials suggested that the Assembly nominate one staff to handle tourism related matters. It was agreed that a tourism desk would be established within the District Assembly, a designated officer to coordinate and manage all tourism activities in the district.

Attention was also drawn to existing and potential tourist attractions within Ada West. Notably, the Nkyinkyin Museum, the Okor Wem etc was highlighted as a key site that requires greater promotion and publicity. The DCE also mentioned other sites within the district that could be developed into tourist attractions with the support of GTA. To supports this efforts, the GTA proposed a return visit with a media team to documents and record tourism related content in the district. These content will be used to produce brochures and other publicity materials to help market Ada West as tourism destination.

Furthermore, the GTA expressed the need to involve the Tour Association of Ghana in future activities. This collaboration would ensure that tourists who visit Ada are guided to explore the various attraction sites in the district, thereby increasing visibility and economic benefits for the local communities.

To ensure the involvement of traditional leaders in the process, it was agreed that the District Coordinating Director, Mr Kwadwo Bour Gyamfi would engage the chiefs to arrange a suitable date for the follow up visit.

The visit by the Ghana Tourism Authority marked an important step toward promoting tourism in Ada West. Both the GTA and the Ada West District Assembly expressed strong commitment to working together to develop and publicize the district’s rich cultural and historical attractions. Key action points such as the creation of a tourist desk and a planned follow up visit signal a promising start to partnership.
