CLEAN UP EXERCISE AT ANYAMAM
The management and staff of the Ada West District Assembly collaborated with residents of Anyamam, to carry out a clean-up exercise in the community. The exercise was led by the District Coordinating Director (DCD) Mr. Kwadwo Buor Gyamfi and the District Environmental Health Officer (DEHO) Ms. Millicent Maccarthy, on Thursday 27th February 2025. The District Assembly locked up all the offices to carry out this all-important exercise.
The clean-up exercise is a monthly initiative instituted by the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, in line with the President’s agenda to reset the country. The exercise would be carried out on every last Friday of every month. It would be replicated and rotated in different communities across the district and nationwide.
The objective of this clean-up is to promote environmental cleanliness, improve public health and deepen community participation in nation building. In the long run, the exercise would equally reduce preventable communicable diseases such as cholera, malaria, typhoid, and other common infections in the District. Aside the health and environmental benefits the clean-up also promoted social interaction among the residents of the community and the staff of the Assembly.
The cleaning up commenced at about 6:30 am from the Anyamam principal street. It lasted approximately four (4) hours. After which, the principal streets, the coastline, Damacus and Oshebu vicinities which erstwhile were engulfed with filth were all tidied and cleared up neatly. The refuse was gathered into the Zoomlion waste containers for conveyance to the final disposal sites.
Approximately, a hundred (100) participants took part in this maiden clean-up exercise. Notably among the staff, were the District Finance Officer, the District Works Engineer, staff members of the Revenue Unit, Client Service, Registry, Information Services among others. The exercise also received support from some Assembly Members and unit committee members. Other supporting participants were zoomlion staff, shop owners, business operators, school pupils and the youth of Anyamam community.
The District Coordinating Director, Mr. Gyamfi commended all the participants for honouring the call to clean to the environment. He urged them to apply this unity and patriotism to all aspect of their lives. He was optimistic that the next exercise would draw more participants to this worthy cause.
Meanwhile, officials from the Greater Accra Region, led by the Regional Environmental Health Officer Ms. Sybil Marie Boison visited the District, on Friday 28th February, 2025, to evaluate the work done at the Anyamam community. The District Coordinating Director, Mr. Gyamfi led them to inspect the community and assessed the level of work done. Ms. Boison commended the Assembly and all the participants for good work done. She advised against burning of rubbers and refuses in the open space. She encouraged the assembly to invest in waste recycling to prevent air pollution.
