AWDA Holds Second Ordinary Meeting of the Third Session of the Fourth Assembly

The Ada West District Assembly on Wednesday, 12th August 2026 held its second ordinary meeting of the third session of the fourth Assembly.

The meeting provided the platform for the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Modjifa Tanihu J.J.F Mills-Nkrumah to update the Assembly members of implementation of decisions reached by the Assembly at its earlier sitting and also to present Executive Committee report comprising of various sub-committees reports on decisions reached for consideration of the General Assembly for implementation.

In his address, the DCE informed the Assembly of newly officers posted to the Assembly to include the District Coordinating Director (DCD) and the District Finance Officer (DFO) and then proceeded to update the house of the status of some ongoing development projects in the district namely; construction of the DCE’s bungalow and that of the DCD which are currently at 85% and 95% completion respectively.

The DCE also reported that works had commenced on some selected roads in the district and added that “these roads may appear ordinary, but their impact on daily life is significant” as “better roads mean easier movement of people and goods for local businesses”.

Access to portable water has been a problem for sometimes and attracted the attention of the Assembly on several occasions. This, the DCE stressed, that provision of portable water remains the priority of the Assembly and accordingly informed the honorable Assembly members that “approximately 3.5 kilometers of pipeline have already been laid under the Afiadenyigba Water Extension Project, with the remaining 1.5 kilometers expected to be completed within the coming month” and indicated that “the second phase of the project will extend water supply from Afiadenyigba to Aditcherekope and surrounding communities, bringing relief to many households and improving public health outcomes”. On the question of water problem generally in the district, officials from the Community Water who were invited to brief the Assembly on the water situation in the district said that the problem had to do with obsolete pipes that had to be replaced and indicated that efforts were underway to replace the said pipelines.

On Healthcare delivery, and improving on health facilities in the district, the DCE in underscoring the importance of health delivery stressed that “the true measure of development is not only the roads we build or the structures we complete” but must also be measured in the quality of healthcare available to our people. Consequently, the DCE indicated that the Assembly continues to invest heavily in expanding access to healthcare services across the district and reported that currently, works on the Luhour and Koni CHPs Compounds are progressing steadily and disclosed that efforts are underway to facilitate the upgrading of the Anyamam CHPs compound to a Poly-clinic with plans advanced for the construction of a CHPs compound at Badzorhe.

The DCE also disclosed a proposal to establish a Specialist Children’s Hospital within the district to serve the eastern parts of Greater Accra and Volta Regions and said this facility when completed will operate on Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis.

On education, the DCE as a teacher himself did not mince words when he said that “our children deserve the opportunity to learn in safe, conducive and inspiring environments” and added that, it was for this reason that the Assembly prioritized construction of educational infrastructure throughout the district.

Consequently, the DCE updated the house of the construction of the following projects in the area of education which are progressing steadily; Kindergarten (KG) classroom blocks at Goi and Kposem, Bonikope Junior High School project which has reached roofing level and added, that, the Assembly through its own funds is also engaged in the “construction of separate ten-seater toilet facilities for boys and another 10 for the girls at Ada Senior High Technical School and Construction of a ten-seater KVIP facility at RC Primary School, Korloudor”.

The DCE also disclosed that through the support of GETFund some additional projects are also ongoing and these include;

The construction of a 24-classroom block at Ada Senior High Technical School;

The Construction of a six-unit classroom block at Koni;

The walling works at Ada Senior High Technical School.

The DCE intimated that upon completion of these projects, “the facility will improve teaching and learning conditions and contribute to better educational outcomes for pupils in the area”.

Talking about positioning Ada West District to take care of future opportunities, the DCE indicated that “development permits have been approved for the construction of a modern ninety-six-room hotel facility at Anyamam by a Lebanese Company”. This investment according to the DCE is expected to stimulate tourism, hospitality and local economic activity while creating employment opportunities for residents.

Again, boasting economy potential for Ada West, the DCE mentioned the 24-HR Economy as one of the most exciting developments currently underway in the district as part of Government’s flagship programs and indicated that the project site had been handed over to Architectural and Engineering Services Limited (AESL), who had subsequently handed it over to the construction company (Lordia Construction Limited) for the commencement of construction works on the 24-Hour Economy Market in Sege after the necessary preparatory works had been carried out and therefore thanked H.E John Dramani Mahama for his great vision and for considering Ada west as one of the beneficiaries of the project. This project, the DCE said “has the potential to redefine economic activity within our district”…and would “create opportunities for traders, farmers, artisans and entrepreneurs, generate employment for our youth and position Sege as an important commercial centre within the Greater Accra Region”.

On Agriculture, the DCE told Honorable Assembly members that the Assembly received “one thousand five hundred (1,500) bags of Urea and NPK fertilizers from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to support farmers within the district…and indicated that as agriculture remains the backbone of our local economy, this intervention will help improve crop productivity, reduce production costs, and contribute significantly to food security and income generation for our farming communities”.

In outlining the Assembly’s quest to ensure development for the people they serve, the DCE acknowledged, that the success choked so far was not an individual effort but that which reflected the “collective commitment of this Assembly, our Member of Parliament, the traditional authorities, our development partners, staff of the Assembly and the hardworking people of Ada West”.

The DCE however did not present his address without outlining the challenges faced by the Assembly notably bad roads that rendered many roads in the district unmotorable, problem with portable water supply, payment of tolls and rates, security situation in the district with reported robbery cases. He however informed the house that the Assembly received two hundred and ninety-three (293) solar streetlights from the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition and indicated that “these streetlights will be strategically installed across our communities to improve visibility, enhance public safety, support economic activities at night, and strengthen security within the district”…and believed that “this intervention will undoubtedly contribute to creating safer and more vibrant communities for our people”. The District Police Commander on the other hand said that it was some weed-smoking miscreants that were behind the robbery activities in the district and assured the house of the Police preparedness to go after them.

The meeting was convened by the Presiding Member (PM), Hon. Lawrence Katey Ngunekpeku and also present at the meeting were the District Coordinating Director (DCD), Namale Firimin-Roger Nabiebakye, Esq, heads of the security services and heads of other centralized and decentralized departments.
