The Launch Of The CLOGSAG Ladies Wing In Ada West District

THE LAUNCH OF THE CLOGSAG LADIES WING IN ADA WEST DISTRICT

On 28th August, 2025, a meeting was held at the Ada West District Assembly Hall between the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) and the ladies of the District Assembly. The purpose of the meeting was to formally establish the CLOGSAG Ladies Club (CLOGSAGLAG) at the district level. The event was well attended by female staff of the assembly as well as some gentlemen who came in solidarity to support the initiative.

The meeting was graced by the presence of Madam Serwa Gyamfi, the Acting President of CLOGSAGLAG, Madam Gifty Quansah, the Vice President, Madam Harriet Kakrani, the Assistant Secretary, and other officials of the Association. Their presence highlighted the importance and weight attached to the establishment of the ladies’ wing in the Ada West District.

In her address, the Acting President explained that the vision of the CLOGSAG Ladies Club is to empower, support, and promote the welfare and professional development of women within the Civil and Local Government Services. The mission is to provide a strong platform for mentorship, capacity-building, networking, and gender equity. She emphasized that the importance of such a club lies in creating a unified voice for women in public service, while offering advocacy, solidarity, and professional growth opportunities for members.

The Vice President and other speakers elaborated on the relevance of the Ladies Club in today’s civil service. They noted that it aligns with Ghana’s agenda on gender mainstreaming, helps to bridge the leadership gap in senior positions, and supports the integration of work–life balance policies. It was also highlighted that the club would serve as an avenue for women to push for maternity protection, fair promotion, anti-harassment measures, and equal representation in decision-making.

During the meeting, participants discussed the expected benefits of the club to female civil servants. These included professional development through training and leadership opportunities, access to mentorship and coaching, exposure to scholarship and career advancement opportunities, and the promotion of sisterhood and solidarity. The club is also expected to initiate community outreach programs, health and wellness campaigns, and policy dialogues with gender advocacy institutions.

The deliberations acknowledged that while the initiative is laudable, there are challenges that may hinder its full implementation. These include limited funding, low participation levels, and the need for stronger institutional backing. To overcome these challenges, members resolved to strengthen collaboration with stakeholders, increase outreach and visibility, leverage digital platforms for communication and learning, and conduct periodic reviews of progress.

A key highlight of the meeting was the official launch of the CLOGSAG Ladies Club in the Ada West District. Members expressed their strong commitment to the vision and pledged to support its activities. To facilitate smooth coordination of the club’s activities at the district level, two focal persons were selected: Miss Hellen Nanewortor Yawa and Miss Augustina Braimah. Their mandate is to serve as liaisons between the national leadership of CLOGSAGLAG and the district members.

In conclusion, the meeting marked a significant milestone in promoting women’s empowerment and professional development within the Ada West District Assembly. The presence and support of both ladies and gentlemen symbolized inclusivity and collective commitment to building a stronger public service. The CLOGSAG Ladies Club is not merely a social group but a movement for change. Together, we rise, lead, and transform Ghana’s public service. Indeed, empowered women empower the nation.
