NAP Delivers Training Kits To Beneficiaries In Ada West

NAP DELIVERS TRAINING KITS TO BENEFICIARIES IN ADA WEST

The National Apprenticeship Program (NAP) on Friday, 17th April 2026 delivered some training kits to beneficiaries of the program in the Ada West District.

The Greater Accra Regional NAP Coordinator, Mr. Jones Klutse, who delivered the training kits, said that the purpose of the program as a manifesto promise of the NDC going into the December 7, 2024 elections was to cure the creeping unemployment faced by Ghana especially among the youth.

Admonishing the beneficiaries to take the program serious, Mr. Jones Kluste using the German and the Switzerland example said that skills training is the way to go and that, at appoint Germany had to convert most of the country’s universities into technical universities to address the skills gap of the country. Mr. Klutse also said that currently, research shows that out of every ten (10) pupils who started basic education only three (3) ended up with tertiary education, and the question is what happens to the remaining seven (7)?. This, Mr. Klutse said shows that there is the need to provide avenue for skills training which also provides avenue not only for solving the country’s unemployment problems but to boast its economy and cited Nestle Ghana Company as example of what skills labour can do to any country that is intentional to addressing its skills gap through technical training and education.

Mr. Jones Klutse cautioned the apprentices to take good care of the training kits and added, that the training kits are supposed to be in the custody of the master craft men and not to be taken home by the apprentices. Mr. Klutse however said, that when the apprentices graduated, they would be provided with start-up equipment by government and further disclosed that the National Youth Authority is in discussion with the “Adjumawura program” and if that worked, grandaunts of the program would also be provided with start-up capital to establish themselves.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ada West, Hon. Hon. Modjifa Tanihu J.J.F. Mills-Nkrumah in his remarks said that the NAP was a campaign promise fulfilled by the NDC government and urged beneficiaries to take the grogram serious and also disclosed that the District is making efforts to have Industrial zone at Matsekope which would open up the district for more employment opportunities.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Hon. (Apostle) Daniel Keshi Bessey who said in his remarks that “all of us cannot be MP, President, or DCE” said he believed in youth empowerment, and that he does not believe in ‘one man show’. He therefore admonished the beneficiary apprentices not to look at the value of the items meant for their training but to think about how the item can change their lives to become significant others in the future, if put to good use, and stressed, that whichever area one finds himself or herself, one can ‘function as though he or she is President, MP or DCE’. The MP stressed, that, just as one cannot start school from university to KG, but rather the reverse, so it is with going through apprenticeship; you must start from the beginning and with sincerity, commitment and hard work you would achieve your goal. The MP therefore advised the beneficiaries to be punctual to work and be humble so their masters can train them well to become useful to society. He also admonished the master craft men not to focus on the monetary gain of the program but be committed to training the apprentices who can then speak well about them and by so doing can enhance the image of their establishments.

The Greater Accra Regional NAP Coordinator, Mr. Jones Klutse assured both the Master craft men and the apprentices that validation had completed and very soon their stipends would be paid to them.

The current cohort of the NAP in the Ada West District according to Mr. Klutse constitutes phase one consisting of six (6) master craft men and thirty (30) beneficiary apprentices who are expected to graduate in May 2026, all things being equal.

The training kits delivered are for training in the following vocation; Welding, Carpentering, Building and Construction, IT and Electricals and the Master craft men involved respectively are; Edward Sappor, Israel Torgbenu/Sor Mawuli, Emmanuel G. Abayateye, Michael Dugbatey, and Assem Prosper Darkeh.

Mr. Assem Prosper Darkeh, a master craft man for the Electricals vocation who spoke on behalf of the six (6) selected master craft men thanked government for the opportunity and promised to take good care of the training kits and also pledged their commitment to train the apprentices professionally for the program to achieve its aim.

The NAP is a “government initiative aimed at addressing youth unemployment and bridging the skills gap in Ghana. It offers free, high-quality apprenticeship training to equip young people with industry-relevant technical, vocational, and entrepreneurial skills”. One must be a Ghanaian between the ages of 15 years to 40 years and must be genuinely committed to acquiring technical, vocational and entrepreneurial skills to benefit from the program and it is open to individuals with all educational backgrounds. Master craft men are chosen in the respective beneficiary districts to help train selected apprentices at the cost of government.
